Nov 11 - Old Secrets / New Stories of Oberlin’s Underground Railroad

(Wednesday, 11/11 at 7:15 p.m.)  Old Secrets / New Stories of Oberlin’s Underground Railroad.  The Underground Railroad, or numerous ways people journeyed to freedom, is an uplifting story in our nation’s otherwise haunting history of slavery.  For the past few years Executive Director Liz Schultz and Board member/docent Ron Gorman have been researching Oberlin’s abolitionist history, the freedom seekers who made their way to town and beyond to Canada, and those who assisted these clandestine, illegal activities. They will share period accounts from newspapers, autobiographies, and letters that shed more light on these individuals and Oberlin’s unique and powerful role in this national movement. This program is an extended version of the program presented at the Heritage Center’s Annual Meeting in April. Location:  Kendal at Oberlin’s Heiser Auditorium.

Please note that due to construction at Kendal, guests should allow more time to get from parking areas to alternate entrances.
