The Oberlin Heritage Center’s Bed & Breakfast program is an annual fundraiser that helps supply income for this organization by offering lodging in local homes to families of incoming students to Oberlin College. Volunteer hosts provide sleeping space, continental breakfast and a hospitable atmosphere to their guests. It’s a win-win-win situation: families arriving for Orientation find lodging, OHC gains needed operating funds and B&B hosts have a rewarding experience introducing visitors to the Oberlin community.
We are now accepting New Student Orientation lodging requests for August 2017. This year New Student Orientation begins Tuesday morning, August 22 and ends for parents late afternoon Wednesday, August 23. Parents might want lodging with their incoming student for the night of Monday, August 21. Our hosts will also provide lodging for the nights of Tuesday, August 22 and/or Wednesday, August 23 for parents as needed. Occasionally we get requests for longer stays and we will try to accommodate those requests if possible.
The 2017 charge is $95 per night for a single guest or for a couple sharing the same room (usually one double or queen size bed). There is an additional charge of $35 per night for each incoming student or sibling (usually a twin bed, futon or pull-out). We’ll provide confirmation beginning in May after we receive the information requested below and have verified that we can provide the requested lodging. We have a limited number of placements each year. We will then request payment in full to reserve the housing. All fees will be paid upfront directly to the Oberlin Heritage Center; our hosts are donating their homes and hospitality. Host contact information will be sent at the beginning of August.
If you would like to be a guest in our B&B fundraiser program in August 2017, please send the following information to our email: OHCbnb@gmail.com
1. Name, address, email address, phone number(s) of contact person.
2. Requested nights with names of all guests for each night requested and whether parent/adult or student.
Monday, August 21
Tuesday, August 22
Wednesday, August 23
Specify other nights if needed.
3. Any allergies, such as to pets, that would affect where we place you.
4. Our homes are generally non-smoking. Do you have a smoking preference?
5. Will you have a car? (Some of our hosts live outside easy walking distance to campus.)
6. Other considerations or special requests.
We do honor requests on a first-come, first-served basis and give priority to those requesting two or more nights of lodging. Last year our homes filled up quickly and we did have families left on a waiting list so we encourage you to make your requests early.
We’re pleased to be able to offer this service to Oberlin College students and their families. Feel free to contact us with any questions at OHCbnb@gmail.com.
