July 27-31 Summer Camp: Oberlin Changed The World

Oberlin Changed the World
July 27-31 (Monday - Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

Ordinary Oberlinians did some pretty extraordinary things, even if it sometimes meant breaking the law! Together we'll explore Oberlin's history related to anti-slavery, women's rights, scientific discovery, and healthy living. But we're not just going to read or hear about history. We're going to go where it happened - in historic buildings, parks, cemeteries, and more. We'll play games, listen to music, and try activities and food from Oberlin's past. Each participant will also receive an "Oberlin: Origins and Onward" history comic book.

Notes about Camps and Registration:
Camps are designed to stimulate children's creativity and allow them to experience history, architecture, art, crafts, games, and the tastes and sounds of diverse cultures. Camps are led by an experienced teacher assisted by college student interns as well as youth and community volunteers. Camps take place at the air-conditioned Oberlin Depot at 240 South Main Street with occasional walking field trips to notable locations nearby. For all sessions, children should bring a bag lunch each day. Some snacks will be provided.

Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes may be cancelled if a minimum enrollment is not met by one week prior to the start date. No refunds will be made within one week prior to the session the registrant is scheduled to attend. Grandchildren of Oberlin Heritage Center members may receive the member discount as well.

Partial scholarships may be available to those who qualify for schools' free lunch programs (please inquire 440-774-1700).
