2024 OHC House Tour & Program Schedule

Oberlin Origins + Little Red Schoolhouse Tour

Thursday and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.

This guided tour is an exploration of the 1866 Monroe House and 1836 Little Red Schoolhouse that tells the unique, nationally significant story of the community and college in Oberlin from their beginning in 1833. Learn about Oberlin's founding as a Christian Perfectionist colony, women attending college, African American education, abolition and the Underground Railroad, and more.

Tours last around 45 minutes and are offered at 10:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m. every Thursday and Saturday. 

Groups of 8 or more must contact the Museum Education and Tour Manager.

Oberlin Origins Self-Guided Tours

Anytime during open hours Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. (last entry at 2:30 p.m.)

Are you unable to attend a guided tour? Then drop by during our open hours for a self-guided experience of the popular Oberlin Origins tourVisitors are provided with a tablet that will take them through the first floor of the 1866 Monroe House.

No registration required; walk-ins welcome.

 

Jewett House Tours

The first and third Friday of every month in 2023 at 1:30 pm. 

Join us every first and third Friday of the month for a guided 45-minute tour of the Jewett House. Learn about Frank Fanning Jewett, Sarah Frances Gulick Jewett, Charles Martin Hall, the Aluminum Reduction Process and life in Oberlin during the Progressive Era. Additional topics include architecture, interior design, social reform, and student boarders who stayed with the family during their time at Oberlin College.

Guests will meet at Monroe House to register.

Foiled Again! The Aluminum Mystery Experience

The second Friday of every month in 2023 at 2:00 pm. 

Join us to help Professor Jewett solve the mystery of where his aluminum science notes went inside the Jewett House. Your group will be immersed in the late 1800s as Professor Jewett helps his student, Charles Martin Hall, discover the Aluminum Reduction Process. This teamwork-based activity, one-hour experience is best suited for detectives over the age of 9. We recommend groups between 3-8 participants. Each experience is limited to one private group booking. If you are unable to join one of OHC's scheduled offerings, this experience can be arranged as a group experience by reaching out to the Museum Education & Tour Manager.
