June 12 & 13 - Juneteenth

June 12 & 13 (Friday and Saturday)  The Oberlin community will celebrate Juneteenth at Tappan Square and commemorate the 150th Anniversary of John Brown's Raid at Harpers Ferry which took place on October 16th, 1859.

As part of Juneteenth festivities, the Oberlin Heritage Center will have an information booth at Tappan Square throughout the day on Saturday.  The Oral History Committee of the Heritage Center will also have a table to record residents' memories of significant happenings in Oberlin such as (but not limited to) the Hundred Year Flood of July 1969, the May 8, 1970 incident, tornadoes including the Palm Sunday 1965 disaster in Pittsfield, parades, Fourth of July celebrations, and fireworks.  The booth will be on Tappan Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13.

The Heritage Center will also offer free guided tours at its historic sites on Saturday, June 13, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.  Participation is limited to the first 15 tour visitors at each time.  We'll also have fun, free activities that day in the Little Red Schoolhouse from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m.  Families can drop by to play games!
