Jul 20 - OHC Members Only Trip to Leek Pipe Organ Co.

July 20 (Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon) OHC Members-Only Trip to Leek Pipe Organ Company

Join us for a mechanical, musical, magnificent visit to Leek Pipe Organ Company in Berea, Ohio. Guests will be welcomed in the front office and then we’ll head back into the shop area where the pipe organ magic happens. Conversation topics will include pipe families and materials, "voicing" a pipe, and how organ technology has changed (and not changed) over time. There also will be a few mini hands-on activities. This family-owned company was founded in 1976 by John G. P. Leek (also an OHC member), former Curator of Pipe Organs at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. His son, James P. Leek, who followed in his father's footsteps, is a master organ builder and president of the company, which was based in Oberlin until 2014. The company specializes in building custom Tracker/Electro-pneumatic pipe organs, restoring historic and modern pipe organs, technology upgrades to consoles and controls, voicing, tuning, repairs, and maintenance.

Cost of the field trip: $20/person. Recommended for adults and youth ages 12 and up.

Register today on-line as space is limited to 25 OHC members.
(Not a member? Join on-line or call (440) 774-1700).

Guests may drive on their own and join the group in Berea, or car pooling is available from Oberlin. Details will be included on the registration form. Location: Leek Pipe Organ Company. Specific parking instructions will be provided upon registration.
