Sept 29, Oct 8 Free Freedom Friends Tours Offered For Big Read Oberlin

OHC is delighted to be a partner of the Big Read initiative kicking off this fall.

This community reading program, coordinated by Oberlin College, is focusing on the book Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. Big Read events, which will take place throughout the 2022-2023 academic year, are meant to inspire meaningful conversations, artistic responses, and new discoveries and connections within the community.

As part of the initiative, the Oberlin Heritage Center is hosting two free offerings of its Freedoms Friends History Walk. Register online for either September 29 at 6:00 p.m. or October 8 at 11:00 a.m. Oberlin College was one of 62 organizations nationwide selected to receive an NEA Big Read Grant. Local partners include the Oberlin College Libraries, Oberlin Public Library, Oberlin Heritage Center, Friends of the Oberlin Public Library and others. Funding is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and Arts Midwest.

Walks begin at First Church in Oberlin on the corner of Main St. and Lorain (Rt. 511).
